Central Region Town Information
Groot Marico is actually a very small town and its name has nothing to do with its size. It is well known for its beautiful African bushvelt suroundings and special kind of hospitality. This region holds a special appeal and has much to offer.
Lichtenburg has many willow trees along the sides of the streets. One of the most produced products is maize, other grains are also produced and cattle ranching is also another major occupation.
Mafikeng was previously named Mahikeng, which means “the place among rocks". Today Mafikeng is a vibrant provincial and commercial capital and a major tourism attraction for its culture and unique wildlife.
Zeerust is known for their Mixed farming and mining of minerals like lead and chrome and these minerals are the backbone of the economy in this bushveld town.
